1/08 to 3/08: Ugh.

A generally terrible beginning to the year was accompanied by The Mad Decent Worldwide Radio Podcast. If in need of party music - or trying to ignore a sky poised to fall - this is the way to go.

3/08 to 6/08: The "Divorce"

A real life recreation of the "The Break Up" led to long hours at the gym, listening to Maximo Park's A Certain Trigger on loop. A great break-up album. A great rock album. Many an indoor track lap were run to "Acrobat."

When at home sulking, I spent most of my time with Frightened Rabbit's The Midnight Organ Fight. A whiney yet rocky set that ranges from the whiney and promiscuous in "The Twist" (twist yourself around me/i need company/i need human heat) to the whiney and guilt inducing in "Keep yourself Warm" (You won't find love in a hole/It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm). Rockin' live show, however.

6/08 to 7/08: The Basement

Wood paneling drove me to make a hasty decision to live in a spacious, yet flooded and bug infested basement. Luckily this coincided with Girl Talk's Night Ripper which accompanied many a night discovering new species of insect.

To deal with the ever-present loneliness, Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago delivered many reasons to never get out of bed. I also played a lot of DDR.

Around this time I discovered Vampire Weekend's self titled album. Though these days i can't really stand listening to it. It accompanied the beginning of my return to good spirits... that and lots and lots of 'Lil Waynes' The Carter III. "A Milli" is probably my track of the year. (a milli'/a milli'/a milli'/a milli'/ a mil'/ a milli')

7/08 to 9/08: Summer in Paradise

A new, uninfested apartment and a new found happiness led to much dancing. Muscles Guns Babes Lemonade is probably the fastest way to put on a smile i know of. And if i ever realize i have, in fact, been gay all this time, loving this album would be one of those "i should've known then" moments.

When not visualizing fog and laser lights - I alternated between Santogold's self titled album and Diplo's and Santogold's Top Ranking mixtape.

9/08 to 11/08: Come Sail Away

A unexpected tangent in my life began with going into a target in Boone, Iowa and purchasing the ground-breaking Journey's Greatest Hits. The following months i discovered many bands of this like, but the best, by far, is Sytx. "Come Sail Away" is my spinach.

When taking a Styx break - I was listening Jaguar Love's Take Me To The Sea. My favorite rock-out album of the year.

11/08 to 1/09: Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Sometime around first snowfall I started listening to a lot of Lookbook's I Fear You, My Darkness. The longingly sweet vocals and heartbeat-slow beats are like a warm, motherly hug that lasts 30 minutes. And one look outside, and I'm ready for another.

Kanye West's 808's and Heartbreak kinda does the same thing for me... but less motherly- more like a bro-hug after a drunken night of telling sad tales at a bar.

Have a Happy New Year!

This will be my "should have known that about Paul then" moment.
